World War II Romania
During World War II, Romania initially aligned with the Axis powers under Ion Antonescu. It contributed significantly to the Eastern Front, supplying oil and troops, especially in the Soviet invasion. Romania's forces suffered heavy losses at Stalingrad, and it was involved in the persecution of Jews. In 1944, after Soviet advances, King Michael led a coup, ousting Antonescu and switching Romania to the Allied side. Despite this shift, Romania faced territorial losses post-war, though it regained Northern Transylvania from Hungary.
